SAFETY
WARNING: RISK OF
MOVING PARTS.
- Disconnect the electrical supply circuit to the ceiling
fan before installing your new ceiling fan blades.
- To reduce the risk of personal injury, do not bend the
blade attachment system when installing, balancing, or cleaning the fan.
Never insert foreign objects between rotating fan blades.
GENERAL
The important safeguards and
instructions appearing in this manual are not meant to cover all possible
conditions and situations that may occur. It must by understood that common
sense, caution and care are factors which cannot be built into any product.
These factors must be supplied by the person(s) installing the blades.
NOTE: It
is important to read all “NOTE” and “IMPORTANT” items at each step. They
contain important information to make your installation go correctly and smoothly.
GETTING READY - GATHERING THE TOOLS
You will need the following
tools for installing the fan blades:
- Electric drill
- Drill bits (depending on
the size of hole in your current fan blades)
- Standard and Phillips-head
screwdrivers
- Ladder or step stool
- C-clamp (helpful but not
necessary)
ASSEMBLING FAN BLADES
Fan
manufacturers all use varying styles of fan blade irons (brackets that hold the
blade to the fan).
NOTE: It is
usually easy to install the blades while leaving the blade irons attached to
the fan motor. Shorter screwdrivers might be needed in this case. You can
also unscrew the blade irons from the fan motor.
- Unscrew existing blades
from blade irons on your fan. Fig 1.
- Match your drill bit size
to your existing blade holes.
- Take your old blade and position
it on your new custom BKBlade aligning the end with the holes to the curved
end of your new BKBlade design. Use the C-clamp to secure the two blades together
in the orientation for your new blade to point out from the fan motor in a
perpendicular line.
NOTE: Use a cloth between clamp and blades to prevent
scratching.
IMPORTANT: Place your new blade on an old 2x4 or other
block of wood when drilling to keep from splitting out on the back side when
bit goes through.
- Carefully drill holes in
your new BKBlades using the holes from your old blades as guides. Fig 2.
IMPORTANT: Only
drill 1 new blade using the old blade.
- Take your newly drilled custom
BKBlade and lay over your next custom BKBlade to drill. Make sure you
have the blades laying in the same orientation and direction. C-Clamp
your two BKBlades together. You are now using your first drilled BKBlade
as a pattern. Align and drill the next blade. Repeat this process until
all of your BKBlades are drilled, being sure to drill each one separately
until they are all drilled in the same matching orientation and direction.
IMPORTANT:
Drill only one blade at a time and keep them secured for correct orientation.
- Take your new custom BKBlades
and, using the screws you used to remove your old blades, attach your new
blades to the blade support irons. Fig 1.
NOTE:
In some cases you might have to ream your drilled holes slightly to make the
holes line up correctly with the blade irons. Blade Irons might be slightly
different therefore slight modification may be necessary.
- Since every BKBlade is cut to
the same exact computer diagram on a computer driven router, balancing is
normally not needed. If, by chance your fan wobbles after your new custom
BKBlades are installed, you can purchase a balancing kit from us on our
website http://www.BKBlades.com. We have found only 1 in 4 fans need
balancing after installation.
- Turn on your fan and enjoy
your new unique look in motion.
